HTML coder crafts a design into markup language. They increase a firm’s web site traffic by making it more accessible and usable. This is an especially important task in today’s internet-driven world, where 60-70% of traffic comes from the website.

HTML coders are experienced in writing w3c validated code. They have a good knowledge of how to make website more accessible by making it compatible across various browsers and operating systems. Their job requires that they always keep themselves updated with the latest market trends regarding browsers, operating systems, their usage, javascripts etc. Many certification courses in this particular area are available.

Typically companies have designers and programmers in their team and generally writing HTML code does not come under their area of expertise.

These days, when we have over 100+ browsers and operating system combination and 66% of the market belongs to browsers other than IE, it is necessary to have an accessible websites.

Few years back, people used to use different WYSIWYG software like Dreamweaver etc to write their code but in today’s semantic and standard compliant world, hand written code is becoming a requirement.

The fact that in last 2 years, over 200 websites are dedicated in service for PSD to HTML conversion proves that it has a huge market and will be one of the rewarding careers in days to come.

Although being an HTML coder is a job, it’s not really something that is viable in today’s market. When companies or small firms are looking to hire a “webmaster”, they want someone who can not only administer a website but also do more than just simple HTML coding. They want an XHTML expert, CSS guru, and usually someone who is at least comfortable working in Photoshop/Flash/Illustrator/some graphics editor.

    Jake,

Markup writing is a specialized field like designing, programming. Any one who is solely into markup coding should know and be well versed with HTML, XHTML, CSS, browser compatibility, and web standards.

Xhtml-css is a full time job, much more demanding that lamp or other programming language. It’s a test and re-test job very very demanding!
